Situated at the rear of a 1760 cape a fitting addition holds a practical kitchen filled with hand planed cabinets. We spend more money on kitchen renovations than on any other room in the house and talking about the ideal kitchen can be as contentious as politics. Since we were aiming at pre 1910 cabinets that s what we did. It s arguably the most important room of a home.
Tops of counters were wood initially which was an understandable design transfer of the familiar wood from the kitchen table being used for newly designed countertops. Laminate cabinets emerged in the 80 s and many kitchens adopted the euro style cabinet which was a white cabinet with a wood trim.
