I decided to do one coat of lacquer then the glaze and then the last coat of lacquer so the glaze was protected too.
It depends on the top coat you use for how many coats are required. One of the most significant advantages that lacquer provides for kitchen cabinets is a finish that dries very quickly. That means i need two topcoats to get maximum durability. I am currently switching to waterborne.
If you use this product at room temperature then it can dry in as little as 15 minutes. Plus it can be sanded and levels well ensuring a smooth finish and helping to mask minor imperfections. This will help seal any moisture in the wood as well as protect it from outside moisture from humidity. It also dries incredibly quickly so we can spray multiple coats in one day so you can get back to your new kitchen faster.
You can get the first coat applied sand it and then spray up to two more coats in just an hour. Ideally at the bare minimum you will need to put at least two to three coats of the polyurethane finish. To do this i found a trick using push pins. I use a cv and require 3 5 to 5 mil dry per mfg recommendation.

Surfaces adjacent to appliances shall be finished as though exposed. Only one coat of primer should do the trick unless your cabinets are really dark then i would recommend following up with one more coat of primer when that first coat is dry before moving on.
After about two hours of dry time i primed the fronts of the cabinet doors.
