Installing floors before cabinets.
Occasionally after the they are are installed one side of the cabinet may be higher than the other side. Remove the old flooring. I completely gutted the kitchen and had planned on installing the hardwood floor under the new kitchen cabinets. Do not install under the cabinets but it s ok under the refrigerator and dishwasher.
An underlayment adds another 1 4 inch to 1 2 inch to the total flooring thickness. This will help take care of minor scratches that may occur during the rest of the kitchen construction. By installing the floor first there will be no need for using trim moldings against toe kicks unless the floor itself is far out of whack. This piece should be at least 2 inches wide and about inch thicker than the total thickness of the flooring including any vapor barrier or cushion.
The flooring contractor will not have to work around existing cabinetry so the work can go that much faster. Since then i ve heard both stories. However it may be best to completely remove the old kitchen floor covering and expose the subfloor. Vacuum all dust and debris from the floor and smooth out any raised areas.

Demo the cabinets demo the floor install the hardwood sand with stain 2 coats of poly install the cabinets install the countertops then add the 3rd and final coat of polyurethane.
