Why Are My Kitchen Cabinets Cracking

The most common construction of cabinets is by planks being glued together to fabricate a door.
He says eventually they will have hairline cracks at the joints as all wood moves with humidity and temperature. What in the world does that have to do with cabinets. I already have a replacement surround for the fridge coming now a cabinet is cracking my contractor is to look at it. I love the painted kitchen cabinets but my cabinet guy is trying to talk me out of them.
We are building a new home. Says its not common. Also concerned about replacin. A cabinet door in my kitchen makes a loud annoying cracking noise when i open and close it and i m curious if this is something that i can fix simply by adjusting the adjustment screws or if there is actually something wrong with the hinge and it needs to be replaced.
Our cabinet boxes are particle board or some such mix of engineered wood but i have solid wood doors with end panels and it has always been such a perfect match i didn t even know this until we put new granite on a couple of years ago. Many times minor cracking is normal due to the wood that s why most manufacturers who sell painted cabinets their center panel is almost always mdf. Has anyone had a problem with this. I m worried that it s going to happen to other areas.

When you apply numerous heavy layers of primers paints and topcoats they can crack at the joints or angles when the humidity changes. When paint is applied in thick coats it cannot expand and contract.If they are then it is normal as wood contracts and expands with the temp of the room. The cracking occurs when the door panel shrinks and breaks the heavy paint layer. Cracks in the paint on cupboards can be due to improper painting techniques.
